‘IO’は、表面的には私が生徒に勧めている基本的な言語学習方法を定義する頭字語 (Input→Output) です。より深い意味では、IOって1610年にガリレオ・ガリレイが自作の望遠鏡で発見した木星の主要な衛星の1つで、私達のフロンティア・スピリット(開拓者精神)と、人間の DNA の中に深く刻まれている、いろいろ観察したり、理解したり、探検したり、発見したりすることの象徴です。

My friends and students often ask me, “Why ‘IO’?” Superficially IO is an acronym which defines the basic language learning method I recommend to my students: Input→Output; on a deeper level, IO — one of the major moons of Jupiter discovered by Galileo Galilei with his homemade telescope in 1610 — is a symbol of our frontier spirit and our species’ innate drives to observe and to understand, and to explore and make discoveries.
