YOU LOOK GREAT IN RED!

Hi everybody!Last Sunday I was chatting with a new friend and new student at Starbucks and I asked her if she would like to join a 交流イベント。 She said, “Sorry, I already have a promise on that day.” This is a very common mistake!! If you look up 「約束」 in a 和英辞書 it will say “promise” but actually “have a promise” is Japanese English. 約束するというのは “promise” or “make a promise” だけど 「約束がある」 と言うのは “have a promise” ではありません。　So how do you say 「ごめんね、もう約束がある」 in English? It`s easy! Just say…Sorry, I already have plans. You can also say, “I have plans.” Also, “make a promise” and “promise” are Real English, too. And they have the same meaning as the Japanese 「約束する」 but they never mean 「予定」. Here is an example conversation:Aちゃん: Are you gonna call me tomorrow? A: Do you promise? B: Yeah, I promise! Of course I`m gonna call you! I like you, Aちゃん! Well, that`s all for today.  Catch you later (＾。＾)/♪Learning is the greatest joy♪Bob
