紅葉

Hi everybody!

It`s really cold today, isn`t it?! I guess winter is here.  But it`s a good season to view the fall colors in the park and in the mountains so today let`s talk about 紅葉。

In English we sometimes say “red leaves” (赤い葉) but that is just one color. We also say “yellow leaves,” “brown leaves,” “orange leaves,” and sometimes “red leaves,” but all the colors all together are called…

or…

the autumn colors.

アメリカ人はだいたいfallって言うと思うんですけどautumnって言う人も多いし、イギリスなどでは autumn の方がよく使われてるかもしれません。 どっちでもネイティブの Real English ですが｢紅葉」って言おうとする時は全ての葉が本当に赤じゃなかったら “red leaves” じゃなくて “the fall colors” or “the autumn” colors を使いましょう。

So, anyway, let`s practice! Here are some example sentences:

I wanna go see the fall colors this weekend. (今週末紅葉を見に行きたいです。)

Do you know a good place to see the fall colors? (紅葉を見るのにいい所を知ってる？)

The fall colors around Mt. Takao are really beautiful. (高尾山の紅葉はとても美しいですよ。)
