PUT ON/WEAR の使い分け方

Hi everybody!

 Here is a mini English lesson that will be very useful for many of you.

Because a lot of students of English aren’t used to using “put on” and “wear.” But the difference is simple: “put on” is an action and “wear” is a state. 

Put onって動きのある動詞で、wear は動きのない動詞です。

では、練習する前に文法をちょっと復習しましょう。

 “Put on”and “wear”are both irregular verbs (両方とも例外動詞) so let’s practice these patterns:

Now let’s practice these example sentences :

・I`m putting on my watch. [This is an action. 数秒しかかからないけど動きがあるから "put on" を使いましょう。

・Vanessa is putting on perfume. (意味は「バネッサは香水をつけています。」　今の動作ですね。)

・Jimi is putting on his hat. (これ、普通の日本語で言うとジミーは帽子をかぶってるっていうんですね。 

“Jimi is wearing his hat” も普通の日本語に訳したら「ジミーは帽子をかぶっている」って言うと思うけど、日本語で考えてそのまま英語に訳してみないほうがいいんですね。

通じないジャパニーズイングリッシュになってしまう時も多いし、自分も相手も混乱してしまうしね？！　でも、 “think like a native speaker” ことができるようになったらこの “wear” と “put on” の違いは分かりやすいでしょう。　”Jimi is putting on his hat” は今の動作を説明する表現です。)

・I`m wearing my watch. [This has no action. 時計してるけど私は何もしてないから "wear" を使います。 

・I put on my watch this morning. (This action is finished. 今朝に時計をしたから過去形の “put on” を使います。”Put on” の過去形は原形と同じです。)

☆ちなみに、英語の場合は体に付ける物はだいたい “put on/wear” を使うので 目的語の “watch” の代わりにhat/shirt/skirt/dress/socks/shoes/earrings/perfume を入れてもっと練習しましょう☆

・You put on too much perfume. (香水付けすぎたよ！)

・I never wear a tie. (ネクタイ全然つけない。)

・I don`t know how to put on a tie. (ネクタイ縛れない。)

・Did you put on your socks? (靴下履いた？)

・Are you wearing socks? (靴下履いてる？)

▼ボーナスアットホームの電話会話:

・Aちゃん: It`s cold tonight, isn`t it? What are you wearing? (今夜寒いよね？！ 何を着てるの？)

・B君: I`m not wearing anything. (何も着てないよ.)

・Aちゃん: What?! Put some clothes on! (えっ？！何かを着なさい！)
